Safe Deposits and the NCUA
The news from the banking industry sent shockwaves across our country. However, you can feel assured that your money is safe with Hickam FCU. For 86 years, Hickam FCU has been safeguarding our members’ hard-earned money. Not even the destruction of the credit union during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, or the challenges of a global pandemic, could keep us from our purpose – serving our members-owners.
This commitment to our members and our responsible stewardship of their finances resulted in us being named the Best-In-State Credit Union in Hawaii by Forbes Magazine in 2022. We are also rated as “Well Capitalized” by the National Credit Union Association (NCUA). All member deposits are protected by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund and insured to at least $250,000 per individual depositor.

During our 86th Annual Meeting, we awarded our Employee of the Year Tina Fontes-Coronel, Regional Branch Manager.
With nearly 12 years of service at Hickam Federal Credit Union, Tina has a wealth of knowledge and strives to go above and beyond to assist members and support branch staff. Over the years, this employee has been a leading example of Caring, Integrity, and Commitment and can always be counted on to assist in community events and to lend a helping hand when needed. Mahalo Tina for representing the credit union and our core values so well!

Keiki & Kupuna ID

The Hickam FCU team was happy to be out in the community again for our first Keiki and Kupuna ID service since 2019. With a team of 20 volunteers, we provided 230 IDs at the Celebrate Safe Communities event on March 6th at Pearlridge Center.
Although Keiki and Kupuna IDs cannot be used in any official capacity, they are a crucial resource in emergency situations. The IDs can be helpful in situations where families need help locating or identifying missing children and elders. The individual’s information, photo, and fingerprints are displayed on the card. We look forward to providing more of these IDs to the community again!
Featured Member Story
Hickam FCU Mortgage Loan Operations Assistant Manager Dana (left) with first-time homebuyer Cody (right).
As a first-time homebuyer, the home mortgage loan process was very new and foreign to me. The service and personal attention that I received from Hickam FCU was exceptional. They were there for me every step of the way, and I’m glad that
I chose them to help me navigate through this intricate but rewarding process. I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a home in Hawaii.

Prevent Card Fraud
One of the easiest ways for thieves to steal your credit card information is when you give it to them directly. That’s right, sometimes we are giving away our information without even knowing! You can prevent this from happening by being vigilant.
- Check the website you are on before you submit any personal or card information. Do you recognize the company? Is the website secure (check the URL box to see if there is a warning sign)?
Look for a secure connection. However, even if it is secure, make sure you recognize the company. | Do not download anything or enter information on sites with a "not secure" warning. |
- Most companies will never call you to ask for a verification code. You should only enter or provide the security code on trustworthy sites.
- If you received a fraud or scam notice, do not click on any links or call the phone number provided in the message. Go to the company’s legitimate website or check the back of your card to find their official contact information.
What to do if you suspect fraud
If you suspect your Hickam FCU card was compromised and there is fraudulent activity, please do the following:
- On the Hickam FCU Card Control app, lock your card. There is a lock icon on the card details screen. Tap on it to lock your card and prevent further fraudulent activities from happening. If you do not have this app, we highly recommend you download it from your app store.
- Give us a call at 808.423.1391.
